Well, winter is here again. Have you inspected your furnace or boiler? It is important to keep them running efficiently. You don’t want them breaking down during a cold spell.
First of all, clean or replace your filters. If you have baseboard heat, clean the fins of dust, hair, and debris. Even if you have space heaters, blow or vaccuum the insides as best you can. Cleanliness leads to better efficiency.
If you have any kind of gas furnace or boiler I highly recommend you keep a spare ignitor or thermocouple. And when you use the spare immediately order another to replace it. When you need a replacement you need it NOW before your home of office gets too cold. Not only is it uncomfortable it can contribute to health problems when condensation forms on the pipes and walls and that can lead to mold. If it gets too cold pipes can break. If you’re leaving town for a while in the winter leave the heat on the lowest setting instead of turning it off. I used to get my replacement parts from repairclinic.com. This is not meant to be an advertisement and there are others but I just like them. If you need a maintenance manual for your heating system I have a lot of them right here: StepRightUpManuals.com Heating Service Manuals. Stay healthy and warm this winter.
